The Primary school curriculum is based on the norms given by the Italian Ministry of Education. Although the School will have a bilingual and bicultural curriculum in which the Italian national curriculum is integrated and complemented by its English counterpart.

Our Primary School will be opening to pupils in September 2011.

In accordance with the Italian education system, children will be admitted into year one when they are 6 or are going to be 6 by 30th April of the following year (ie for the academic year 2010-2011 children born by the 30th April 2005).
To be in line with the British education system, if requested children will also be admitted into year one when they are going to be 6 by 31st Agust of the following year (for the academic year 2010-2011 children born by the 31st Agust 2005 can enrol for Y1), although priority will be given to those born by April.

Classes will run five days per week, from Monday to Friday, from 8.30 am until 3.30 pm for a total of 27/28 hours of teaching.

Subjects and teaching languages
Following the most recent studies on bilingual teaching, we have chosen to introduce the teaching of the English language as a second language (as opposed to mother tongue). Therefore in Y 1 and 2, there will be a ratio on 65/35 (Italian/English) in the teaching of the other subjects, which will move to 50/50 by Y3.
For Y 1and 2 the subjects taught in italian will be: Italian, maths, science, religion, music and art, to which will be added some registration time. The subjects taught in English will be English (including vocabulary from various other subjects such as maths), drama, PSHE (Personal, Social Health Education), ICT (Information Communication Technology) and Physical education.
In Y3 science and  registration time will also be done in English.
History and Geography will be split equally being taught in both Italian and English with programmes specially devised to integrate the content of both systems.
